Coconut cookies are an East African/Somalian dessert.They are crunchy,chewy,and of course  sweet.They are often eaten with hot coffee and tea. In Somalia they are called "bus-coot cumba"Which means exactly cookie coconut.

The birthday song was originally written by Patty and Mildred j hill. they were the melody creators.They did not create the words.It was first sung by a kindergarten teacher to her class in Kentucky.It was called "good morning to all".Students in the school later sang the song in class for students birthdays,changing the words to happy birthday while keeping the tune.

     History of Birthday Cake and Candles tradition

     This weeks topic is about birthdays.In the past the only difference between cake and bread, was that cake was a bit sweeter.In the 15th century bakers came up with the idea to sell one layer cakes for weddings and birthdays.More complicated cakes with icing and more than one layer were available exclusively for the extremely wealthy.

Now on to the candle tradition ..... Some say that the Greeks started the tradition in order to honor/celebrate the gods and goddesses for their birthdays.They were also thought to grant magical wishes(in urban folk tale).

         Stuffed grape leaves were originally a Greek food and later spread to Arabian areas.It has many names : dolma,sarma,mahshi,dolme.

     Pizza was introduced to the U.S.A by Italian immigrants selling at home and in their stores  and  that led to the first pizzeria being opened in 1905 by an Italian man who goes by the name Gennuardo Lombardi in New York. Italians  started it all by selling flat bread with all kinds of toppings.
Pizza was invented as a fast and easy to eat and also cheap/inexpensive.

              Flan is a food that has been around even before the middle age.It was even thought as a cure to sicknesses in the kidneys, liver and all other parts inside the chest.At first ,flan was mainly popular in Rome and then was spread.Topping it with caramel is thought to be started in France.
